IPOH – After being granted an audience with Sultan of Perak Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah on Wednesday to seek the state ruler’s consent to dissolve the Perak assembly, Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad was summoned for another audience with the sultan today.

Saarani said that he was summoned for an audience with Sultan Nazrin today when met by the media after attending the Perak Islamic Education Excellence Award ceremony here today.

“Not sure what the purpose (of the audience) is... we will have to wait until the palace makes an announcement,” said Saarani.

It is understood that today’s audience took place around noon at Istana Kinta after the award ceremony attended by Saarani, according to a palace source.

During Wednesday’s audience, Saarani presented the dissolution application document to the Perak ruler, which according to the menteri besar, was in accordance with provisions in the Perak constitution. 

Saarani said that during the audience, he had also informed the sultan of the prime minister’s advice to the heads of the state governments to act accordingly for state elections to be held simultaneously with the 15th general election.

Perak has 59 state seats, of which 25 are under Barisan Nasional, DAP (15), Amanah (five), Bersatu (four), PAS (three), PKR (three), PBM (three), with one seat held by an independent. – Bernama, October 14, 2022
