KUALA LUMPUR – Infrastructure development company Bina Darulaman Bhd (BDB) has plans in place to minimise the risk of flooding at its work sites, centred around upgrading the Pelubang water treatment plant and laying new pipes in Kedah.
Their plans also include ensuring water from pipe installation works do not flow into surrounding padi fields, said BDB group acting president and chief executive officer Mohd Iskandar Dzulkarnain Ramli in a statement today.
Its subsidiary BDB Synergy Sdn Bhd, which is upgrading the Pelubang plant and carrying out new pipeline projects, will also ensure that the excavated areas will be covered at the end of each work day to prevent unwanted incidents, he added.
The flow of water in areas around the project sites will also be monitored to ensure water is not obstructed, Iskandar said.
He said trenches will be dug to divert water to reduce the risk of flooding at project sites, and waterways will be dredged to encourage water flow.
Iskandar said these measures will be taken to reduce the risk of floods in the case of heavy rain.
The project management committee headed by BDB Synergy executive director Tahir Md Zin has been tasked with monitoring flood risks at these project sites, he added.
Besides the ongoing works at the Pelubang plant, new pipes are being installed at three other locations, from Sg Baru to Kuala Sungai, from Bukit Tinggi to Kuala Kedah, and from Bukit Mengkuang to Bukit Kayu Hitam.
BDB Synergy was appointed by the Kedah government in May last year to carry out the projects worth RM431 million.
Iskandar also said BDB Synergy has set up a special complaint hotline to attend to public concerns.
Hotline numbers are at every pipeline project site, he added, urging people to call the numbers if they are affected by the ongoing works. – The Vibes, October 19, 2022
