MELAKA – The Melaka police have drawn up various strategies to ensure a smooth 15th general election (GE15) during the northeast monsoon season, which may cause flooding in the state.
State police chief Datuk Zainol Samah said 1,800 police personnel will be mobilised for GE15, while 250 others are on standby for the floods.
“We will also mobilise our assets, like boats for use during GE15 in case of floods and will also request assistance from volunteers and non-governmental organisations.
“Leave for the 2,572 police personnel in Melaka has also been frozen to ensure the smooth running of GE15,” he told reporters after opening the Crime Prevention and Walkabout Programme in conjunction with the 2022 Deepavali celebration last night.
Also present was State Youth Development, Sports and Non-Governmental Organisation Committee chairman V.P. Shanmugam.
Zainol said police had also identified the hot parliamentary seats in the state and stricter monitoring will be carried out in those areas to avoid any untoward incidents.
On the use of drones by political parties during the campaign period, he said, they need to get permission from the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia to do so.
In another development, he advised those leaving their homes for a long period in conjunction with the Deepavali celebrations to inform police by filling out a form so that police can monitor the area. – Bernama, October 21, 2022
