KUALA LUMPUR – Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin does not mind being labelled as a “traitor” over his decision to remove PN component party Bersatu from the Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition.
He claimed that the move was made following several “pushes” from PH, saying that he did so as the situation with certain PH component parties did not align with his political beliefs.
“I left PH because I was not willing to put up with demands made by DAP and PKR, which were inappropriate and contradictory to the demands of religion, race, and nation,” he said in a statement shared on his Facebook page today.
“It does not concern me if I am labelled a traitor, because I cannot turn my back against race, religion, and Malaysia.”
The former prime minister also said that the nation is in dire need of leaders who do not abuse the trust given to them, as it is a big sin to commit treacherous acts which will hamper the nation’s progress.
“Malaysia was once known as an Asian Tiger because of our great successes, and our people used to be proud to call themselves Malaysians,” he lamented.
“However, many people now are ashamed of (the nation’s fall) due to corruption and abuse of power among leaders of the country.”
Additionally, he recalled how his political career had taken a blow after he had voiced out his concerns regarding the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) financial scandal involving now-imprisoned Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
“I was ‘kicked out’ as deputy prime minister and from Umno just for speaking on 1MDB, which is the biggest ‘robbery’ in the nation’s history,” he said.
“(The 1MDB scandal) tarnished Malaysia’s good name in the eyes of the world, but never mind. Maybe God did not want me to be with evil people.”
Muhyiddin, who is also Bersatu president, also urged voters to think wisely and vote for PN in the upcoming 15th general election so that a “trustworthy and caring government of integrity” can be formed following the polls.
He stressed that PN is the best choice to form such a government, saying: “God willing, if we are given the chance to be the government, we will do our best to address the problems faced by the people.” – The Vibes, October 23, 2022
