KUCHING – Long-standing speculation that Sarawak DAP chief Chong Chieng Jen will not be contesting in Stampin came to an end today when the incumbent himself announced that he will be defending his parliamentary seat in the 15th general election (GE15).

“This is official from me. Forget the rumours and speculations,” Chong told a crowd of about 200 DAP supporters during a DAP mobilisation event at the party headquarters here, this evening.

At the same time, he also announced that Dr Kelvin Yii, the incumbent for Bandar Kuching, and Mas Gading incumbent Modi Bhimol, will also be defending their seats.

Meanwhile, DAP newbie Laerry Jabul also took to the stage as DAP’s candidate for Serian.

The announcements were made in the presence of DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang.

With these announcements, DAP’s candidates’ list is concluded for the eight parliamentary seats that the party is contesting in Sarawak.

Last evening, it was announced in Sibu that Oscar Ling and Alice Lau will be the candidates for Sibu and Lanang respectively, whereas Tony Chiew will take on Bintulu.

Sarikei will see Roderick Wong contesting on behalf of his father incumbent David Wong. – The Vibes, October 23, 2022
