GEORGE TOWN – Medical doctor Prof Dr Wan Ahmad Kamil Wan Abdullah was today unveiled as Amanah’s candidate for the Kubang Kerian parliamentary seat in Kelantan.
The seat’s former MP, Amanah’s Datuk Husam Musa announced Dr Wan Ahmad Kamil as Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) contender for the seat.
Dr Wan Ahmad Kamil is a great-grandchild of one of Kelantan’s legendary ulama, Muhammad Yusof Ahmad, better known as Tok Kenali.
Dr Wan Ahmad Kamil is also a teaching professor at the Universiti Sains Malaysia Hospital campus in Kubang Kerian.
The Kubang Kerian seat is likely to see a three-cornered fight with Amanah facing Barisan Nasional as well as PAS from Perikatan Nasional.
Husam urged voters in Kubang Kerian to support Dr Wan Ahmad Kamil to ensure that PH chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has a shot at becoming the next prime minister so that Malaysia can undertake much-needed institutional reforms.
Meanwhile, Alor Star incumbent Chan Ming Kai from PKR announced that the party will not be fielding him in GE15.
“Thank you. I have been informed that I am no longer nominated by the party for any seat,” Chan said on social media.
“I have always responded to our leadership’s call to explore rural seats, (and) I had suggested making a way in existing seats for new people and in challenging seats that have not yet been won or where (we were) betrayed,” he also said, in reference to seats won by former PH allies who defected in the Sheraton Move in 2020.
Chan first won the Simpang Pulai state seat in Perak in 2008, then he became the Indera Kayangan assemblyman in Perlis in 2013, before contesting and winning the Alor Star parliamentary seat in 2018.
The 42-year-old has been with the party for the past 20 years and said he respected and accepted PKR’s decision not to field him. – The Vibes, October 24, 2022
