KUALA LUMPUR – There is no data to back Umno and Barisan Nasional’s (BN) confidence to claim a big victory in the coming general election (GE15), PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli said.
A poll of voters by the party has found that 78% of respondents are unhappy with the current economic situation, while 63% are unhappy with the government’s performance, he said in an “Ayuh Malaysia” ceramah in Sungai Besar, Selangor, last night.
“So the situation now, one month before GE15, is worse than how people felt in 2018, one month before the general election then.
“Back then, 60% said they were not satisfied with the economy, and around 50% were satisfied with the government’s performance.
“But now it is worse. That’s why, if Umno and BN say they are confident, I’m telling you, there is no proof that they will have a big win, much less form the next government,” Rafizi said.
He said the poll by PKR was done by he and others who called up a number of voters each week as part of voters’ sentiment tracking. He did not specify the sample size.
Rafizi said people felt this way not because Pakatan Harapan was in a strong position, but because the country’s problems had not changed.
“It is worse as the cost of living has increased,” he added.
He said Umno and BN should not be overconfident based on wins in the Johor and Malacca state elections, where voter turnout had been low.
Voting for GE15 is set on November 19 while nomination day is on November 5. – The Vibes, October 25, 2022
