KUALA LUMPUR – Messaging service WhatsApp is facing a worldwide disruption with users facing problems in sending and receiving messages.
Downdetector, a website that tracks online outages across the globe, has user reports on the outage.
According to the complaints, users are not seeing their messages delivered, and even if the messages appear to be delivered, the app does not display the delivery status.
WhatsApp’s parent company Meta Platforms told Reuters it was troubleshooting the problem.
“We’re aware that some people are currently having trouble sending messages and we’re working to restore WhatsApp for everyone as quickly as possible," the newswire quoted a company spokesman as saying.
On the Downdetector website, a chart tracking the app's outages showed that the current problem had begun at 2:51pm.
The outage appears to be worldwide, as news portals in various countries began reporting complaints from local users.
