KUALA LUMPUR – After calling Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin a “traitor” for the Sheraton Move, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has now called him “unrepentant” and “arrogant” with eyes only on the prime minister’s post.
Dr Mahathir said he thought Muhyiddin would have “felt sorry for his actions” after falling out with Umno, which the latter’s party Bersatu had sided with to form the new coalition that ousted Pakatan Harapan (PH) in 2020.
“It’s okay if he cheated on me. I thought he would try to make up for his betrayal to Bersatu, which lost some states, and to the people as a whole.
“Apparently he is still arrogant and just wants to be PM (prime minister),” Dr Mahathir, who is Pejuang chairman, said in a video posted on his social media channels.
This follows Muhyiddin’s lashing of the two-time former prime minister yesterday for calling him a “betrayer” last week. The Bersatu president and Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman blamed Dr Mahathir for first initiating moves for Bersatu to leave PH, as well as his resignation as prime minister that led to PH’s collapse.
Dr Mahathir explained in his video why he had previously proposed that Pejuang and the Gerakan Tanah Air coalition he founded should work with Muhyiddin.
The 97-year-old leader said he was willing to forget Muhyiddin’s “betrayal” in order to work with PN in the coming general election, but the latter refused.
Dr Mahathir added that although Muhyiddin denied being a traitor in the Sheraton Move, he had the most to benefit from that episode by becoming prime minister.
“Who became the prime minister through the back-door or hole in the roof? Not me but Muhyiddin.”
Dr Mahathir also noted that PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang had admitted that he and Muhyiddin were both involved in the Sheraton Move.
Muhyiddin’s PN and Barisan Nasional (BN) were in the post-PH governments after the Sheraton Move but Umno, BN’s linchpin party, has decided not to collaborate with PN in facing the coming national polls. – The Vibes, October 31, 2022
