PERMAISURI – Nine Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Dungun students faced some anxious moments when they were trapped by a water surge at Lata Ulu Kekabu in Setiu, near here, around 5pm today.

Setiu police chief Afandi Hussin said a team of 31 policemen and firefighters were dispatched to the scene and managed to bring the students to safety.

“Upon arriving at the scene at about 5.30pm, we found the victims, aged 23 to 24, still trapped on the other side of the river, at a spot popular for public bathing,” he said when contacted.

Afandi said rescuers brought the students out of the area in about one and a half hours.

None of them was injured.

He said the students had gone there for recreational activities at about 2pm. – Bernama, November 4, 2022
