KUALA LUMPUR – Since the 15th general election (GE15) campaign kicked off with candidate nomination yesterday, eight investigation papers have been opened, and four people have been arrested.
Bukit Aman Internal Security and Public Order Department director, Datuk Seri Hazani Ghazali said the eight opened investigation papers involved two in Selangor, two in Sarawak, and one in Penang, Pahang, Kelantan, and Sabah.
According to him, four arrests were also made in two states – three in Sarawak and one in Selangor.
“Two investigation papers were opened in Selangor under Section 500 of the Penal Code together with Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) Act 1998, and Section 447 together with 143(1) of the Civil Aviation Regulations 2016.
Hazani said police also opened investigation papers under Section 506 of the Penal Code in Pahang, involving criminal intimidation, but no arrests have been made so far.
“In Penang, the police opened an investigation paper under the Elections Act 1958, while in Kelantan an investigation paper was opened under Section 500 of the Penal Code together with Section 233 of the MCMC Act.
“Lastly in Sabah, an investigation paper was opened under Section 147 of the Penal Code together with Section 24(A) (2) of the Election Offences Act 1954,” he said.
Meanwhile, Hazani, who is also GE15 operations director, said 289 permits for ceramah (political talks) had been issued by the police throughout the country.
“However, 19 ceramah were held without police permits – 11 in Selangor, five in Perak, one in Pahang, and two in Terengganu,” he said. – The Vibes, November 6, 2022
