TELUK INTAN – Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate for the Teluk Intan parliamentary seat Datuk T. Murugiah is confident of capturing the seat in the 15th general election (GE15) this November 19 after implementing various initiatives to reach out to the local community in the last three years.
“I am more than 70% confident I can wrest the Teluk Intan seat from the opposition (Pakatan Harapan). I have gone to every corner of the constituency to meet the local community and solve problems here.
“Many local residents complained to me that the elected representative in the Teluk Intan parliamentary seat does not come to the area and only shows his face when it’s time to campaign,” he said at the Teluk Intan parliamentary service centre here today.
In GE14, Nga Kor Ming of DAP won the seat with a majority of 11,179 votes, defeating Datuk Seri Mah Siew Keong of Barisan Nasional and Dr Ahmad Ramadzan of PAS.
Murugiah, an MIC vice-president, said three core aspects would be given attention in his manifesto to the 87,222 voters in the area: economic empowerment, infrastructure improvement and the people’s well-being.
“We will use various attractions here to turn Teluk Intan into a main tourism hub in the country. Besides the Leaning Tower, Teluk Intan has Stork Island (Pulau Bangau), Giant Freshwater Prawns Square and historical places to attract visitors, he said. – Bernama, November 6, 2022
