KUALA LUMPUR – The Election Commission (EC) has suspended the voting process in 11 polling stations in Baram, Miri due to worsening weather conditions in the Sarawakian constituency.

EC chairman Tan Sri Abdul Ghani Salleh, in a statement, said the unconducive weather has prevented election workers from reaching their stations via air, land, or water routes.

“The new polling dates for the polling centres and polling stations (streams) will be announced later after conditions are safe for officials and voters to carry out voting.”

The suspended polling stations are as follows:

1. SK Long Naah - Streams 1 & 2

2. SK Long Luteng - Stream 2

3. RH TK Matthew Belulok Lalo Kg Lepo Gah - Stream 1 & 2

4. SK Long Sait - Stream 2

5. SK Long Tungan - Streams 1 & 2

6. SK Long Moh - Streams 1 & 2

7. SK Long Mekabar - Stream 1

8. SK Long Jekitan - Streams 1 & 2

Earlier, The Vibes reported that voters in the Baram parliamentary constituency had to brave harsh and potentially dangerous conditions due to swollen rivers and flooded timber roads just to get to polling stations.

Floods are rampant in this constituency, which is about the same size as Pahang.

Native social activist Willie Kajan said he received news that floods hit the districts of Marudi, Telang Usan and Mulu in the Baram constituency.

Baram returning officer Belayong Pok had said this morning that EC workers could not get to several polling stations due to the floods and also could not fly by helicopter due to stormy weather. – The Vibes, November 19, 2022
