[UPDATED] GE15: Muhyiddin meets Abang Jo, Hadi over formation of new govt

KUALA LUMPUR – Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg and PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang had a meeting with Perikatan Nasional chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin at his residence earlier this morning.

In a Facebook post, Muhyiddin said the meeting was to discuss the formation of the federal government.

“Discussions are also ongoing with other parties and independents who share the same struggles,” he said.

In yesterday’s general election, Muhyiddin defended his Pagoh parliamentary seat, while the coalition won 73 federal constituencies in total.

PAS, which is part of PN, won 49 of the seats.

Abang Johari, who is also the Gabungan Parti Sarawak chairman, saw his party take 22 parliamentary seats.

However, no political party was able to obtain a simple majority after none were able to win at least half of the 222 parliamentary seats.

The electoral pact between Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Muda has the highest number of seats with 82.

Yesterday, Muhyiddin said his coalition received a letter from Istana Negara with instructions from the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

He added that the coalition’s leaders will have a meeting and an answer by this evening.

“We will have to fulfil instructions laid out by the Agong,” he said.

Muhyiddin has also stressed that PN will not work with rival PH. – The Vibes, November 20, 2022
