SANDAKAN – A 1-year-old boy is missing while his father was injured after they were attacked by a crocodile near the marine base in Lahad Datu, this morning.  

According to the Lahad Datu Fire and Rescue Department’s chief, Sumsoa Rashid, the victims were attacked when they were rowing a sampan at about 10.05am. 

He said the department received a call on the incident at about 10.25am before a team rushed to the location and launched a search-and-rescue (SAR) operation.  

When contacted, Sumsoa said the victims were believed to be Bajau Laut (Palauh).  

“The man was rescued by civilians at the scene, and suffered from injuries on his head and body, while his son remains missing, believed to be snatched by the crocodile.  

“The man was rushed to Lahad Datu Hospital in an ambulance and is currently receiving treatment,” he said.  

Sumsoa said the SAR operation was also being assisted by police, marine police, and Health Ministry officers. – The Vibes, December 1, 2022
