KOTA KINABALU – The Sabah government is confident that a strategic cooperation between the state’s tourism ministry and newly minted federal Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing will have a huge impact on the development of the industry in Sabah.

State Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Jafry Ariffin said his office will seek assistance and incentives from the federal tourism ministry for the promotion and marketing of Sabah’s tourism and cultural products.

He said Tiong, who is MP for Bintulu in Sarawak, expressed his willingness to assist improvements and upgrades to community-based eco tourism in Sabah.

We are looking at the trend now as it has changed. More are visiting spots that offer nature and want to experience the culture and practices of the local communities,” he said after paying a courtesy visit to Tiong at his office in Putrajaya yesterday.

He added that Tiong gave his commitment to resolve all issues related to the operational sector of the tourism industry in the country.

“Among matters discussed in the meeting included licence renewals for tour buses and rental car issues faced by the operators in Sabah,” said Jafry.

It was noted in the meeting that the operators have not been able to renew their licences due to the Covid-19 pandemic. – The Vibes, December 9, 2022
