KUALA LUMPUR – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has paid special respects to the victims of the Batang Kali landslide disaster as well as the floods on the east coast.

In an address during a special parliamentary sitting today, the Tambun MP said the government laments the deaths caused by these tragedies.

“The Parliament is deeply affected and saddened by the incident that has affected 94 victims, including young children and foreign nationals,” he said.

“To date, 61 victims have been rescued while 24 have been declared deceased on site, while the search for nine others is ongoing.”

Anwar then reiterated the government’s assistance for those affected, with RM1,000 for survivors and RM10,000 for families of those who perished in the Batang Kali incident.

In his address, Anwar also thanked all federal and state government agencies, with nearly 700 personnel on duty at ground zero at Father’s Organic Farm, Batang Kali for the search-and-rescue operations.

Anwar also thanked Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Hajah Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah as well as elected lawmakers who visited the site of the tragedy and offered any assistance that they could.

Similarly, Anwar also expressed his condolences to the families of 1-year-old Nur Hilwa Edrea Mohd Hariz Zaifan from Terengganu, who became a victim of the northeast monsoon floods.

“I urge all parties to be cautious and avoid high-risk areas during this rainy and monsoon season,” he said. – The Vibes, December 19, 2022
