KUALA LUMPUR – The 2022 Umno general assembly, which begins today, will not be graced by other party leaders who are part of the unity government.

The matter was confirmed by Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan today, quashing speculations of Umno extending an invitation to join its general assembly to figureheads outside of the Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition.

“There will be no representatives from the unity government (at the Umno general assembly).

“Only parties who are part of BN – such as MIC, MCA and Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah – have been invited, along with six “Friends of BN”.

“We want to settle our affairs first before taking the next step,” he said briefly before launching the media hall for the general assembly at the World Trade Centre here, today.

He added that there will also be no foreign ambassadors at the gathering.

Besides that, he said Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and himself will deliver a closed-door special briefing to delegates from the party’s wings later today.

“The main objective (of the briefing) is to inform and educate party delegates on the unity government,” he said.
