MIRI – Quick-thinking samaritans rescued a man and a woman from a watery death in Sibu district early this morning after the vehicle they were in plunged into a flooded canal.

The incident happened along Jalan Tun Ahmad Zaidi Adruce outside Sibu town, said the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department today.

“The Sibu Jaya Fire and Rescue Department received an emergency alert on the incident at 6.20am and rushed a team to the site,” said the department.

“(Fire Department) rescue unit personnel arrived and found that a Toyota Vios saloon car had plunged into a canal.

“The car was upside down and submerged in the canal that was full of water.

“There were a man and a woman in the vehicle. However, by the time the (Fire Department) team arrived, the man and woman inside the car had been rescued by members of the public.

“The duo were then taken to Sibu Hospital by an ambulance that had arrived at the scene,” said the department.

The victims were a man and a woman, both adults. The cause of the incident is still being investigated. – The Vibes, January 19, 2023
