KOTA KINABALU – Luyang assemblyman Phoong Jin Zhe has called on Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor to follow the example set by Johor in providing allocation for the opposition.

The Sabah DAP publicity secretary said Hajiji would leave a historic mark on Sabah’s politics if he agrees to do so.

He was commenting on Johor’s opposition reps getting RM200,000 allocation from Menteri Besar Datuk Hasni Mohammad.

He said Hasni’s move has proven that our nation is evolving democratically towards a mature political environment.

“The Umno Menteri Besar called Pakatan Harapan (PH) members as strategic partners in developing and creating prosperity for the state.

“Sabah opposition members should receive allocation; the state government should be inclusive and tolerate opposition members to foster a bond and rebuild Sabah together,” Phoong who is also Sabah Dap Socialist Youth Chief said.

Phoong said he had questioned the chief minister if the government will allocate funding for opposition development funds, welfare aid, and special funds for vulnerable groups (Bantuan Orang Susah) during the last assembly sitting.

However, the state government answered that they were not ready to approve such allocations.

“In Sabah, most urban constituencies’ representatives are from the opposition camp and the government is made up of majority representatives from rural area constituencies, both parties should work alongside to develop and create more opportunities for the state and the people”, he said. – The Vibes, December 7, 2020.
