MIRI – A fire swept through a fuel storage facility in Kuching in the predawn hours today.

The affected storage facility at Jalan Ellis in Padungan was used by the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry’s enforcement unit to house confiscated diesel and petrol.

The fire occurred at about 1am, said the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department in a statement.

“When our firefighters arrived, a lorry tanker and a store used to keep the confiscated fuel were on fire.

“We managed to save 14 lorry tankers and other heavy vehicles from the fire.

“The teams also managed to prevent the fire from spreading to another building that was used to store LPG (liquified petroleum gas) and other petroleum products.”

No injuries were reported and the fire was put out at 1.50am.

The cause of the blaze is being investigated and total losses have yet to be determined. – The Vibes, March 22, 2023
