Environment board warns against open burning in Sarawak
The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department has issued a warning about wildfires and possible haze, adding that it recorded 168 cases of wildfires this year, with six on Monday alone. – Social media pic, April 20, 2023

MIRI – The Sarawak Natural Resources and Environment Board (NREB) has issued a public warning against open burning and has set up public complaint hotlines.

The NREB state central hotline is 082-319-543 and the WhatsApp hotline is 013-759-5866, according to a statement today.

“Those with information on open burning activities must alert the nearest NREB office, or call the hotline.”

Sarawak is being placed on alert for drought and water shortage as worries loom over wildfires and haze.

On Monday, the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department also issued a warning about wildfires and possible haze.

The department recorded 168 cases of wildfires this year with six on Monday.

Miri district tops the list with 54 cases, followed by Sibu (35), Kuching (32), Bintulu (28) and Samarahan (12). – The Vibes, April 20, 2023
