BALING – Position in the party is not the main criteria in the selection of Barisan Nasional (BN) candidates for the upcoming Kedah state election, said state Umno liaison committee chairman Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid.

He said that individuals who want to be put forward as candidates must be known and accepted by party members and the local community.

“The candidate is (a) very important (factor in winning the election), so someone who wants to be chosen as a candidate must be acceptable to the community.

“Whether or not he has a position in the party, if the public can accept him, we have no problem naming him (as a candidate),” he told reporters here today. – Bernama, July 4, 2023
