KUALA LUMPUR – Veteran politician Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman says he will not be part of Umno’s campaign for the coming state elections.

This, he said, follows the “silence” over his appeal to have his suspension lifted.

“If you want me to campaign, then lift my suspension.

“How can I work if my hands and legs are tied? What do you want me to do?” he asked.

The former Pasir Salak MP had earlier urged Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to withdraw his membership suspension.

The former deputy minister was also axed from the party’s Supreme Council last year, and had submitted four appeals after he was suspended last October.

“I have been in Umno for 50 years, from being a youth leader at 25. They do this to me. What have I done wrong?

“Can’t criticise, give views, give advice, can’t reprimand? What kind of party do you want it to be if it can’t be reprimanded?” he asked.

However, Tajuddin said his disappointment was not with Umno but with its leaders.

“They only want positions. They know the party is in bad shape but they don’t care. They remain just as confident (about remaining in power) as they were prior to the 15th general election,” he added. – The Vibes, July 21, 2023
