KOTA BARU – PAS vice-president Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah has rubbished a claim that he is the reason Nik Mohamad Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz was not named as Chempaka candidate for the upcoming Kelantan election.

The claim was made by Nik Abduh’s uncle Nik Din Nik Mat.

He claimed that PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang had written a letter asking Kelantan PAS to include Nik Abduh in the candidate list.

He alleged his nephew’s name was, however, rejected by Amar.

Nik Abduh is the son of the late PAS spiritual adviser and Kelantan menteri besar Tan Sri Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat.

In a video that went viral, Nik Din, in calling for people to not vote for Amar, alleged that this was because the latter did not want the family of Nik Aziz to set roots in Pengkalan Chepa.

Pengkalan Chepa is a parliamentary constituency consisting of three state seats: Kijang, Chempaka and Panchor.

Amar, who is Kelantan caretaker deputy menteri besar, is seeking to defend the Panchor seat.

In response to this allegation, Amar last night said Nik Abduh’s name was not on the list of candidates from the start.

“It is slander to say I had anything to do with it since he (Nik Din) was never involved in leadership meetings apart from not holding any posts in the party.

“I don’t know which source he is getting his information from, including in touching on the letter written by PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang,” Amar said.

He explained that the matter concerning Nik Abduh should have been clear after explanations given by party deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man and Nik Abduh himself.

Amar said Tuan Ibrahim had previously clarified that Nik Abduh did not want to run in the election. He added that Nik Abduh himself had said he did not want to be fielded and was fine with not being nominated as he wanted to manage his religious school.

He also said he had a good relationship with Nik Abduh. – The Vibes, July 30, 2023
