KOTA BARU – Former Bachok MP Nik Mohamad Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz announced that he would be taking a break from politics.

Amid the controversy over him not being nominated to contest in Chempaka, Kelantan, for the state election, Nik Abduh took to Facebook to state he would be “fasting and taking a break” (berpuasa dan berehat) from politics for a spell.

“This is a difficult time for my mother and I,” the son of the late PAS spiritual adviser Tan Sri Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat said.

He expressed hope that PAS would grow stronger with the best leadership to drive the country forward.

Previously, Nik Abduh’s uncle, Nik Din Nik Mat, alleged that PAS vice-president Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah blackballed his nephew from being named as Chempaka candidate for the state election.

Nik Din, in a video, alleged that PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang had written a letter asking Kelantan PAS to include Nik Abduh in the list of election candidates. However, he alleged his nephew’s candidacy was rejected by Amar.

Amar subsequently rubbished the claim, saying Nik Abduh’s name was not on the list of candidates from the start.

He explained that the matter concerning Nik Abduh should have been clear after explanations given by PAS deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man and Nik Abduh himself.

Amar said Tuan Ibrahim had previously clarified that Nik Abduh did not want to run in the election. He added that Nik Abduh himself had said he did not want to be fielded and was fine on not being nominated as he wanted to manage his religious school.

He also said he had a good relationship with Nik Abduh. – The Vibes, July 31, 2023
