SEREMBAN – Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan has assured that the federal government will remain strong irrespective of the outcome of the state elections.

The Barisan Nasional (BN) deputy chairman, said this was because the unity government commanded two-thirds majority in the Dewan Rakyat with the backing of 148 MPs.

“There are 19 political parties aligned with the unity government and there is nothing to worry about,” he said when speaking to villagers at Kg Bemban here.

The Umno deputy president also stressed that it would be best if the six states, including Negri Sembilan, be governed by parties which formed the unity government.

“Whatever the outcome of the state elections, it will not affect the stability of the unity government at federal level.

“We have the strong support of 148 MPs and there is no cause for concern,” he said.

Tak Mat, as he is fondly known, will be defending his Rantau seat in the state elections.

He said the anti-hopping laws ensured no MP could switch political parties.

“This is unlike before where MPs could be bought and jump from one party to another,” he said.

Although the result of the polls will not affect the unity government at the federal level, Mohamad, who is also the defence minister, said it was best if the Negri Sembilan state government formed after the state election is represented by the same parties as the federal administration. – The Vibes, August 7, 2023
