GEORGE TOWN – Voting at a polling station in Paya Terubong was stopped after a ballot box there was found to be unsealed.

According to reports in Sin Chew Daily, a total of 177 ballot papers were already cast.

The unsealed ballot box was discovered by Perikatan Nasional candidate Ooi Ghee Oon at the SK Seri Relau polling centre.

Ooi apparently said he would not recognise any of the ballots in that box and had asked the Election Commission to suspend voting for that stream, which was to have 719 voters.

It was reported that the seal was apparently left on the table next to the ballot box.

EC officials are now investigating. – The Vibes, August 12, 2023
