PETALING JAYA – iPhones do not come cheap, and a former law minister is certainly feeling the pinch after his own was seized by the authorities.

“More than RM5,000 now,” Zaid Ibrahim said in jest, lamenting the long wait he endured each time before his device was returned.

“Naturally, you have to buy a new one.”

But it's not just about the pricey gadgets.

Zaid’s tweet took a “nostalgic” turn, as he fondly remembered Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil’s early days.

A young Fahmi “running around Bangsar for PKR” once caught Zaid’s eye as an earnest defender of the underdogs.

“Idealistic and always defending the less fortunate…the small guys,” he recalled.

Zaid also mused on his recent brush with the authorities.

The lawyer said he has been summoned by police for a statement under the Sedition Act 1948 and the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

“Can’t they be more charitable to a harmless old man like me?” he quipped.

The former minister also said he will be tweeting less, “but not because I’ve been cowed by them”.

It seems that Zaid is simply not keen on parting with another iPhone anytime soon! – The Vibes, September 25, 2023
