PUTRAJAYA – Job vacancies advertised online posted an increase of 3.5% in the first quarter (Q1) of this year to 211,509 vacancies compared to 204,420 vacancies recorded in the fourth quarter (Q4) of last year, according to the Statistics Department (DoSM).
In “Big Data Analytics Job Market Insights and My Job Profile: Job Vacancies Advertised Online in Malaysia for Q1 2023” released today, the DoSM said there were 23,339 new firms offering job vacancies during Q1 2023 compared to 12,256 firms in Q4 2022.
On a month-to-month basis, the data showed that most of the job vacancies were posted in March 2023, with 96,688 vacancies which comprised 45.7% of the total in Q1 2023, while there were 65,297 and 49,524 vacancies in February and January 2023, respectively, it said.
As for job vacancies by occupational category, the DoSM said almost half of the vacancies were professionals, with 47.9% or 101,214 vacancies; followed by technicians and associate professionals, with 37,108 vacancies; managers with 29,203 vacancies; and clerical support workers with 18,354 vacancies.
“The hottest jobs during the quarter (Q1 2023) with higher demand were advertising and marketing professionals, managing directors and chief executives, accountants and auditors, administrative associate professionals and software developers,” it said.
As for job vacancies by overall economic sector, the DoSM said more than half were in the services sector, accounting for 54.9% or 116,163 vacancies in Q1 2023.
The analysis of job vacancies by economic activity showed that the highest number was posted by wholesale and retail trade with 35,956 vacancies; followed by manufacturing with 21,499 vacancies; professional, scientific and technical activities with 13,852 vacancies; and financial and insurance or takaful activities with 13,326 vacancies.
The DoSM said the popular jobs offered in the technical and vocational education and training category were advertising and marketing professionals registering 17,409 vacancies; followed by administrative associate professionals with 8,261 vacancies; and software developers with 6,528 vacancies.
The most in-demand jobs for the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics category were technician with 2,005 vacancies, project manager with 1,667 vacancies, and software engineer with 1,643 vacancies.
As for the Critical Occupation List, the DoSM said the top three jobs were advertising and marketing professionals with 17,409 vacancies, managing directors and chief executives with 9,335 vacancies, and accountants and auditors with 8,605 vacancies.
In terms of job vacancies at the state level, the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur recorded the highest number of job vacancies with 62,727 in Q1 2023, followed by Selangor and Johor which registered 39,990 and 12,150 vacancies respectively. – Bernama, June 19, 2023
