KUALA LUMPUR – Telekom Malaysia Bhd (TM) has announced the appointment of Datuk Zainal Abidin Putih as its new chairman, succeeding Tan Sri Azlan Hashim, effective this August 1.
In a statement to Bursa Malaysia today, the telecommunications group also announced the appointment of Amar Huzaimi Md Deris as the new managing director and group chief executive, effective August 1, succeeding Datuk Imri Mokhtar.
Both Azlan and Imri will be completing their respective terms on July 31.
According to TM, Zainal Abidin will be responsible for overseeing the overall governance and strategic direction of TM.
“He will work closely with the board of directors and management team to drive TM’s next wave of growth and strengthen its market position.
“With the appointment of Amar Huzaimi as the new (managing director and group chief executive), TM is confident it will continue to innovate and grow, building upon its success and further enhancing its role as the enabler of Digital Malaysia,” it said.
Meanwhile, Amar Huzaimi said that Imri has set the right path for TM, with the strengthened foundation from the turnaround and pursuit of new growth areas – charting the shift from a telco to a “techco.”
“I am proud to have been part of that journey, and now, I am enthusiastic to follow through and lead TM to the next level,” he said. – Bernama, July 7, 2023
