A MAMAK restaurant along Hang Tuah Street in Melaka was ordered to close for 14 days following a viral clip of an employee allegedly urinating in a nearby drain.
Kosmo reported that the deputy director of the Melaka Health Department (Food Safety and Quality Division), Dorothy Dayang Henry Sum, said the directive was issued after the restaurant was found dirty at the time of inspection.
"We received complaints about the viral incident and conducted a surprise check and the restaurant was ordered to close for 14 days under Section 14 of the Food Act 1983.
"We also issued four compounds for RM1,500 including two notices under Regulation 33 over the cleanliness of the worker," she said.
She said the restaurant owner also informed them that the worker was renting a room at the premises next door with toilet facilities, but was facing water problems.
"The restaurant should have toilet facilities for customers and also workers, but the toilet has no water. This forced the workers to go elsewhere for their toilet needs," she said.
This is not the first time the restaurant was ordered to shut and was closed twice in 2022, also due to cleanliness-related issues.
