AN ASSISTANT Superintendent of police and six members from the Cheras Narcotics Crime Investigation Division were arrested for involvement in extortion and molesting yesterday, reported the New Straits Times.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa police also arrested three men to assist in the investigations.
"Police received a report from a 22-year-old woman on Oct 7, claiming she had been extorted for money and assaulted. The incident reportedly took place on Oct 1 in a condominium in Cheras.
"Upon receiving the victim's police report, three men were detained and remanded for three days and later released on police bail.
"Following that, we arrested seven individuals, including one officer with the rank of ASP and six members, including a female officer, aged between 30 and 50, yesterday," he said after the National Sports Day event for the Kuala Lumpur police contingent today.
They have been remanded for three days starting today until Oct 14 to assist in the investigation under Sections 384 and 354 of the Penal Code.
He emphasised that there would be no compromise on this issue and further investigations are ongoing.
"The report was made late, so a thorough investigation is needed to understand why the complainant reported it late," he said.
Previously, a post on a messaging app went viral, from a woman claiming to be a victim of extortion and assault by a group of individuals during a raid at a condominium unit in Cheras.
The woman alleged she was threatened by a group of police officers demanding RM150,000, which was later reduced to RM90,000 after drugs were found in her possession.
She was released after a man helped her make a payment of RM10,000, which she was required to repay in instalments with interest. - October 12, 2024
