JELUTONG member of parliament RSN Rayer has joined a chorus of individuals and organisations in support of a campaign to abolish the RM1 interbank ATM withdrawal fee.

He said the campaign which was launched by the National Union of Bank Employees (NUBE) has merit since commercial banks were all showing profits despite the economic slowdown.

“The banks can surely afford to scrap the RM1 interbank ATM withdrawal fees,” he said.

He said that most people were suffering due to the increased cost of living and any effort to save money must be supported by the relevant authorities.

“I call on Bank Negara Malaysia to also support the “Abolish the RM1 Fee,” campaign," said Rayer.

Since the campaign was launched by NUBE, there have been numerous calls in support of it, especially at a time when many are facing the hardships of escalating living costs.

“This is a form of exploitation of the poor working class, where the disadvantaged remain trapped in poverty while the wealthy continue to profit,” said NUBE general secretary J Solomon. - January 9, 2025
