KEDAH Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor, was acquitted and discharged by the Shah Alam High Court of a sedition case involving the 16th Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, during a political speech two years ago.

Judge, Datuk Aslam Zainuddin made the decision after the prosecution informed that they did not intend to proceed with the case faced by Sanusi, 51.

On July 18, 2023, the Jeneri State Assemblyman from Kedah pleaded not guilty at the Selayang Sessions Court to two related charges.

Sanusi, who is also the Director of Elections for Perikatan Nasional (PN), was charged with two counts of uttering seditious words concerning the Sultan of Selangor and the 16th Yang di-Pertuan Agong, at Simpang 4, Taman Selayang Mutiara-Kampung Bendahara, Gombak at 11 pm on July 11, 2023.

Both offenses fall under Section 4(1)(b) of the Sedition Act 1948, which can be punished under Section 4(1) of the same act, carrying a fine of up to RM5,000 or a maximum imprisonment of three years, or both, if found guilty.

On February 1, 2024, the trials of the two cases were moved to be heard together at the High Court.

On September 26 of last year, the Sultan of Selangor graciously accepted Sanusi's request for pardon and forgiveness in the spirit of Islamic brotherhood.

On December 10, 2024, Sanusi was released and acquitted (DNA) by the Shah Alam High Court here, in a sedition case involving the Sultan of Selangor, during a political speech last July. – February 24, 2025
