A MEDICAL officer from a hospital in Penang has been arrested by the police in connection with accusations of inappropriate behavior towards a patient at the hospital yesterday.

Bernama today reported that according to Northeast District Police Chief ACP Abdul Rozak Muhammad, the 43-year-old male civil servant was detained at approximately 9:30pm after the hospital made a report regarding the incident.

“The suspect was apprehended at the hospital premises and has been remanded for a period of four days, until March 2, to aid in the ongoing investigation. Police are continuing to gather information and conduct further inquiries related to the case,” Abdul Rozak said in a statement issued earlier today.

The case is being investigated under Section 509 of the Penal Code, which pertains to criminal intimidation through acts that could offend modesty, as well as under Section 14 of the Minor Offenses Act of 1955.

Sources indicate that the male doctor allegedly engaged in deceptive and inappropriate conduct with a 21-year-old female patient while she was receiving treatment for a heart condition in a hospital room. – February 27. 2025
