PARTI KDM leaders today said they will continue their struggle in the coming Sabah election despite the court’s decision to imprison their president Datuk Peter Anthony for three years.
Its deputy president Datuk Wetrom Bahanda said though the court’s decision was ‘disappointing’, it would not halt their political struggle.
“We will not retreat even a step. Our fight continues, including in the upcoming 17th Sabah state election,” Wetrom said in a statement.
This comes after the Kuala Lumpur Court of Appeal upheld Peter’s conviction, maintaining his three-year prison sentence and RM50,000 fine.
He called on supporters across the state to remain steadfast, adding that Parti Kesejahteraan Demokratik Masyarakat’s (KDM) leadership would push forward with its plans.
A high-level party meeting will be held soon to discuss KDM’s next step.
Earlier today, Peter, who is also Sabah Infrastructure Minister lost his final appeal to set aside his guilty conviction for forging a letter from the office of the Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) vice-chancellor for fraudulent purposes 11 years ago.
The Putrajaya Court of Appeal denied his appeal to set aside a three-year prison term, and a RM50,000 fine for the offence in 2014.
A three-member panel of Court of Appeal judges comprising Datuk Ahmad Zaidi Ibrahim, Datuk Mohamed Zaini Mazlan, and Datuk Azmi Ariffin delivered their unanimous decision today to dismiss Peter's appeal to overturn the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court decision in 2022.
Zaidi, who chaired the bench, also issued a committal order for Peter to begin his jail term, effective today. – March 5, 2025
