ELEVEN leaders have confirmed their candidacies as of 11pm last night for the PKR Vice President position in the party election scheduled to be held later this month.
They include three incumbents - Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability, Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad; Minister of Science and Technology, Chang Lih Kang and Menteri Besar of Negeri Sembilan, Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun.
Selangor Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Amiruddin Shaari, who also announced his intention to defend his position, has not yet submitted his candidacy as of last night.
Also submitting nominations are Deputy Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Malaysia, Datuk Seri R Ramanan; PKR Deputy Secretary-General, Dr Sathia Prakash Nadarajan; Segamat Member of Parliament R Yuneswaran; Bayan Baru Member of Parliament, Sim Tze Tzin, Senator Abun Sui Anyit, former Selangor EXCO, Hee Loy Sian and former PKR vice-president Mustaffa Kamil Ayub
There are no nominations for the positions of President and Deputy President, with expectations that a competition will take place for the party's number two position.
All eyes will be on the deputy president’s post as Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli is expected to defend the position. Other big names that are speculated to take him on for the party's no.2 spot are Nurul Izzah Anwar and Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.
For the Central Leadership Council (MPP) position, a total of 62 leaders have submitted their nominations, including Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil; Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Adam Adli Abdul Halim; former Simpang Renggam Member of Parliament Dr Maszlee Malik and director and actor Hans Isaac.
For the position of Vice Wanita Chief, five nominations were received while 40 nominations were received for the women's EXCO position.
Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek is looking to defend the Wanita PKR chief post while Juwairiya Zulkifli is defending the deputy Wanita PKR chief post.
Previously, Ampang MP Rodziah Ismail announced that she would once again challenge Fadhlina, repeating the 2022 election race.
Meanwhile, for the Angkatan Muda Keadilan (AMK) wing, no nominations were received for the AMK Chief position even though the incumbent AMK Deputy Chief, Muhammad Kamil Abdul Munim, had expressed his intention to contest the position this time.
One nomination was also received for the AMK Deputy Chief position, from Kota Damansara State Assemblyman (ADUN), Izuan Kasim, while 10 nominations have been received for the AMK Vice Chief position and 49 candidates for the AMK EXCO.
The nomination period for all central leadership positions will be open until midnight today, with the voting taking place on May 23, in conjunction with the 2025 PKR congress in Johor Bharu, Johor. – May 9, 2025
