Remand for three suspects in university student murder extended

THREE suspects in the murder of a private university student in Cyberjaya on June 24 have been remanded for seven more days.

Sepang District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Norhizam Bahaman said the three suspects were brought to the Sessions Court today for an application to extend their remand.

“The three have been remanded for seven days starting tomorrow (Friday) until July 10,” he said in a statement.

Previously, the three suspects were remanded for seven days starting from June 27 to Thursday.

Selangor Police Chief, Datuk Hussein Omar Khan was previously reported to have said that with the arrest of four individuals including the main suspect, who is the boyfriend of the victim’s housemate, the police had managed to solve the case within 48 hours.

According to him, the remand of all suspects ended on Thursday and Friday, with investigations being conducted under Section 302 of the Penal Code.

Three suspects, including the main suspect, were arrested a day after the incident, while another suspect was arrested two days later.

He also said that the main suspect's friend who was also arrested was the individual who was with the man when he used the victim's automated teller machine (ATM) card.

Bachelor of Physiotherapy student Maniishapriet Kaur, 20, who is from Sarawak, was found dead in her condominium unit in Cyberjaya by a friend at 10am, June 24. - July 3, 2025
