THE Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Johor has remanded two policemen on suspicion of soliciting and accepting a bribe of approximately RM635,000 from an individual in return for not taking action on a gambling offence.
A seven-day remand order until August 5, 2025 against the two suspects was issued by Magistrate Mohammad Izham Mohd Aliyas after an application was made by the MACC at the Johor Bahru Magistrate's Court this morning.
According to sources, the two male suspects, in their 40s, were arrested at around 2am this morning when they appeared to give statements at the Johor MACC office.
"Initial investigations found that both suspects were suspected of abetting the solicitation and acceptance of bribes in return for not taking action against an individual for gambling activities.
"Both suspects are believed to have received the bribes in cash," he said.
Meanwhile, Johor MACC Deputy Director of Operations (TPO), Hairul Ilham Hamzah, when contacted, confirmed the arrest and said the case is being investigated under Section 16 (a) (B) of the MACC Act 2009. – July 30, 2025
