A FORM Three student is currently in critical condition after he is suspected of being bullied at his boarding school.
The victim's mother, Siti Muhaini Mohammad Mansor, 43, said her son, Ahmad Irfan Ahmad Hanafi, reportedly fell from the third floor of the boarding school in Sabak Bernam.
According to her, the results of a CT scan found that her son suffered bleeding on the left and right sides of the brain, as well as a broken jaw and lung injuries.
"If it was true that he fell from the third floor, he would have suffered broken ribs. But the scan results showed that his jaw was broken. That's why we suspect there was an element of bullying," she told Sinar Harian.
Following this, Siti Muhaini said she lodged a police report at 5am today at the Sabak Bernam Police Station.
She added that she was also informed that five students had been detained by the police for investigation, but so far each of them had refused to give a statement.
At the same time, she also questioned the actions of the school, which was allegedly late in informing the guardians of the incident.
“The family was only informed at 4am, when the incident occurred at around 2am.
"The warden said Irfan fell from the third floor after eating instant noodles. But in the medical report, there was no food residue in his stomach," she said.
Asked if Irfan had ever complained about the matter, Siti Muhaini said her son was always cheerful and even active in school.
"Before this, he never mentioned of any problems with his friends. Irfan is activeand even holds a position in the dormitory's religious bureau," she said.
Irfan is currently hospitalised and is still under close medical supervision.
MOE begins probe
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Education (MOE) said it is conducting an internal investigation into the matter.
Its Minister Fadhlina Sidek said the principal, senior assistant for student affairs and all wardens at the school have been temporarily placed at the Selangor State Education Department (JPN) until the investigation is complete.
"I have taken note of the accident involving a student at a school in Selangor today.
"The student is receiving treatment at the hospital. A report has been made to the police so further investigations can be carried out by the authorities," she said in a statement on Facebook.
Fadhlina said she would ensure a detailed investigation be carried out into all aspects including the allegations of bullying.
"I pray that your child will be given a speedy recovery and that the family will be blessed with patience in facing this ordeal," she said.
Selangor Police Chief Datuk Wan Shazeli Kahar has stated that it is still too early to determine whether the recent incident involves elements of bullying.
"A police investigation paper has been opened under Section 31(1) of the Child Act 2001, and investigations will be conducted from multiple angles, including hostel management, student safety, the victim's social background, and the people around them," he said in a statement today.
"Any speculation regarding the cause, including claims of bullying, is premature at this stage," he added. - August 26, 2025
