A TEACHER was charged in the Tawau Sessions Court today with six charges of sexually assaulting five female students last May.

The 56-year-old  accused, who also teaches Malay pleaded not guilty after all charges were read out before Judge Ahmad Faizadh Yahaya.

According to the charges, the father of six is accused of committing the act against five Year Three female students, all aged nine, in a classroom at a primary school in Tawau, on May 8, 13 and 15.

The charge was brought under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 read together with Section 16 of the same act.

If convicted, the accused can be sentenced to up to 20 years in prison and caning for each charge.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Muhammad Haikal Hazwan Md Yatin did not offer any bail considering the offence was non-bailable.

The court, however, allowed bail of RM5,000 for each charge with two sureties and additional conditions as requested by the prosecution.

The court also set November 17 for the appointment of a lawyer and submission of documents. - October 8, 2025
