A WOMAN suffered burns to her right arm after her power bank which was charging suddenly exploded in her room.

Nurul Najihah said a Facebook post that it was about 2pm and the powerbank was about 70 per cent full and so she decided to wait for it to charge 100 per cent.

"The powerbank was next to my printer and about 2.15pm I head a loud boom and suddenly there was fire.

"I was seated on a chair and the powerbank was next to my arm and I suffered some burns," she said.

She said she then rushed to get a wet cloth and a bucket of water and managed to douse the fire.

Apart from the power bank that was completely destroyed, Nurul’s printer and gaming chair were also damaged, while her room’s wall had black scorch marks on it.

She said her husband was at work at the time and she was alone.

"I then turned off all the other switches and was in a state of shock," she said.

Nurul said she bought the powerbank for between RM70 and RM100 sometime in 2023.

"Perhaps it exploded because it has been used for long or maybe the hot weather.

"Whatever it is, please be careful when charging your powerbank. “Do not charge on a carpet and also, don’t overcharge it as any brand of power banks can catch fire," she added. - November 6, 2025
