A MECHANIC lost his right leg after the air conditioning of a car allegedly exploded at a workshop in Kampung Air Merbo Dalam in Tanah Merah on Friday.

The 31-year-old victim is believed to have been repairing the car's air conditioning.

Operations Commander from the Kemahang Fire and Rescue Station (BBP), Senior Fire Officer I, Mat Nuri Muhamad, said they received an emergency call at about 11.03 am and arrived at the location at 11.10 am.

"A total of seven officers, including personnel, were deployed to the location and found that there was an explosion in a car that was in the workshop.

"The victim was taken by the public to Tanah Merah Hospital after Friday prayers.

"Monitoring has been carried out, and the situation is under control and safe. The operation ended at 11.40 am, and the case has been handed back to the police," he said.

Meanwhile, Tanah Merah District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Mohd Haki Hasbullah, confirmed receiving a report regarding the incident. – February 7, 2026
