KUALA LUMPUR – After scathing remarks from netizens over a pothole incident involving Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Khairy Jamaluddin, the Public Works Department yesterday issued 11 ways for Malaysians to channel their complaints.
In a statement on its Facebook page, the department said it takes every complaint seriously, be it concerning federal, state or council roads.
The 11 ways listed are:
- Complaints portal
- Phone
- Sistem Pengurusan Aduan Awam (Sispaa)
- Email to complaints section at [email protected]
- Email to communications section at [email protected]
- Media
- Verbally at JKR offices
- Public Complaints Bureau website
- Letter
- PCB app
- Malaysia Government Call Centre (MyGCC)
In a WhatsApp conversation with The Vibes yesterday, Khairy said that he had to undergo a CT scan and spent the night at hospital as a result of a bicycle accident caused by a pothole.
Khairy, who tweeted about the incident, received a quick reply from the Kuala Langat Public Works Department apologising for the incident.
After Kuala Langat JKR’s tweet, the department received a flood of scathing replies from netizens.
Some netizens said JKR practised double standards, suggesting that the department only responds to ministers, not everyday citizens who complain about potholes.
“After reading this tweet, I hope more ministers fall down rolling on all spoilt roads in Malaysia, especially in Sabah/Sarawak,” @odengerrard tweeted.
“Who remembers last year when a school student died in a crash in Kuala Langat? I did not see an apology by JKR to the family for failing to set up a speed bump,” said @ajipkasa.
“If a minister is involved, they react quickly. If it’s the average Joe, they will wait for him to die first, and when they fix it, they don’t do it sincerely,” said @Nikfaez_. – The Vibes, December 29, 2020
