A SECONDARY school teacher in Batu Pahat was charged in the Sessions Court today on three charges related to images and videos of child pornography in June.

The accused, Mohamad Amir Mohtaram, 50, pleaded not guilty to all charges read out by an interpreter against him before Judge Mohd Khairi Haron.

According to the first charge, the father of six children is charged with soliciting sexual abuse material, namely a video of child pornography.

The charge was brought under Section 8(b) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act (AKKSTKK) 2017 which provides for a prison sentence of 15 years and whipping of not less than three times, if convicted.

According to the second charge, the accused is alleged to have three child pornography video clips on his mobile phone.

For the offence, he is charged under Section 10 of the same act which provides for a prison sentence of up to five years or a fine of RM10,000 or both, if convicted.

For the third charge, the accused is alleged to have nine video contents and 31 obscene images stored on his mobile phone.

The charge is brought under Section 292 of the Penal Code which is punishable by imprisonment of up to three years or a fine or both, if convicted.

All the offences were allegedly committed at a house in Batu Pahat at 6.40 pm on June 19.

The prosecution was led by Deputy Public Prosecutor, Diyana Najihah Muhamad Fauzi, while the accused was represented by lawyer, Mohamad Salihen Mastor.

Earlier, the prosecution offered bail of RM20,000 for each charge and imposed additional conditions.

The court then granted bail of RM15,000 for the accused for all charges, in addition to ordering him to report to the nearest police station every month.

The case will be mentioned again on March 2 for the submission of documents.

Based on the report made, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) detected that the accused was suspected of joining a group that provided child pornography, before informing the police about the matter.

Acting on the information provided, a team from the Johor Police Contingent Headquarters (IPK) conducted a raid on a house in Batu Pahat and arrested the accused.

The police also seized the accused's mobile phone, which was allegedly used to store child pornography, for further investigation. – December 30, 2025
