KUALA LUMPUR – A 75-year-old motorcyclist has died after hitting a pothole and falling off his machine in Jalan Tengah, near Mid Valley Megamall.
The Star reported that police were notified of the incident this morning.
“We were notified of the accident at 7.30am today that occurred after the motorcyclist lost control of his bike in Jalan Tengah, heading towards Mid Valley.
“Preliminary investigations showed that the motorcyclist was riding over a pothole, leading to the victim falling to the ground,” said Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Zulkefly Yahya in a statement.
He said victim, identified as Ho Yan Yee, died at the scene.
The issue of potholes, a common sight on Malaysian roads, returned to the news after Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Khairy Jamaluddin suffered injuries to the face after falling while cycling in Jalan Kg Sri Cheeding, Banting, a week ago.
He landed in a ditch after his bicycle hit a pothole.
His accident saw a swift response from the Kuala Langat Public Works Department, with the pothole in question being filled up a day later.
This did not sit well with Malaysians, who took to social media to criticise the department over its double standards. – The Vibes, January 3, 2021
