UMNO President Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi stressed that the party has no intention of becoming the opposition in Negeri Sembilan.

He said, on the contrary, the decision at the central level confirmed that the 14 Umno State Assemblymen (ADUNs) in the state would continue to be part of the Unity Government.

"We have no intention of becoming the opposition. We have also never discussed the position of Menteri Besar in the state," he said.

Last Monday, 14 Umno BN Negeri Sembilan State Assemblymen (ADUN) unanimously withdrew their support and expressed their loss of confidence in Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun, triggering a political crisis in the state.

The action was allegedly taken following a crisis involving customary institutions and the Negeri Sembilan Constitution, which he insisted must be respected and defended without political interference.

Asked about Barisan Nasional's preparations to face the possibility of a snap state election (PRN) if the State Legislative Assemblies (DUNs) in Negeri Sembilan, Melaka and Johor were dissolved in the near future, Ahmad Zahid said BN was prepared for that, but the candidates had not yet been determined.

"Too early to identify candidates.

"All parties are prepared, and most importantly, when we hand over this mandate to the people, they must choose the best combination," he added. – May 5, 2026
