BARISAN Nasional (BN) Negeri Sembilan will contest all 36 state assembly seats (DUN) in the upcoming state election (PRN).

Negeri Sembilan Umno chairman, Datuk Seri Jalaluddin Alias, said the decision had been approved by Umno president, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

"Negeri Sembilan PH recently decided to contest all state assembly seats, so we will also take the same step.

"The seat distribution also involves the MCA and MIC, while the number of seats that each party will contest will be decided later," he said when contacted by Sinar Harian.

He said that Negeri Sembilan Umno is also almost finished shortlisting candidates for each division and is currently in the screening process, before sending them to the party leadership.

According to him, 95 per cent of the existing candidates are expected to be retained, but several changes will be made, including introducing new faces.

"Our machinery is all ready, including the selection of candidates who need to go through the screening process before the list of names is submitted to the president to determine the best candidate to contest," he said.

The Negeri Sembilan state assembly was dissolved on Friday to make way for the 16th  election.

In the August 2023 general election, BN-Umno won 14 seats, while Perikatan Nasional (PN) obtained five seats.

PH, meanwhile, controlled 17 seats with 11 seats won by DAP, five seats by Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) and one seat by Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah). – June 6, 2026
