KOTA KINABALU – Sabah Umno will continue to defend the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) alliance as the political feud between Umno and Bersatu drags on.

Sabah Umno and state Barisan Nasional chairman Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin today reiterated his stand in sticking with GRS allies – Bersatu, Sabah Star, PBRS and friendly, PBS.

However, he admits Umno’s federal position could affect the GRS state government that has just passed its first 100 days in power.

“We will, however, try to defend GRS.”

Umno Supreme Council leaders are expected to meet tomorrow night to decide on its future in the federal Perikatan Nasional alliance.

Earlier today, Ketereh Umno chief Tan Sri Annuar Musa was removed as Barisan Nasional and Muafakat Nasional secretary-general as talks swirled that Umno no longer wants to cooperate with Bersatu, the party led by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

If Umno breaks ties, PN could be ousted from the federal government seeing it no longer enjoys a majority.

There is no telling how the 14 Sabah BN reps will sway

Bung said the rumoured order asking Umno MPs to quit their posts in the PN federal government by March is fake news.

Despite having been granted autonomy by Umno, Bung said that he will leave it to Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to decide Sabah Umno’s next move if indeed the party plans to cut ties with Bersatu.

In the recently concluded Sabah Umno divisional meetings last weekend, many had asserted plans to field candidates for seats were held by parties aligned with Barisan Nasional.

The party had already announced plans for Tawau and Putatan.

Such declarations are seen as signalling  a general election. – The Vibes January 5, 2021
